Board Of Directors The MJCA Board of Directors consists of two members from each area, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast; as well as two members-at-large.
The Mississippi Beef Council appoints one director to the board and the immediate past president serves in the ex-officio capacity. This totals 12 members serving on the board of directors each year. These directors serve two-year terms and are elected each year at the annual meeting. In order to be eligible for election, the individuals must have reached their 15th birthday by January 1st of the year in which they are running for election and they must submit a written application for the director's seat. The offices of President, Vice-president and Secretary-Treasurer are then voted upon by the members of the board of directors. Benefits As an MJCA member, you'll have the opportunity to develop your leadership and communication skills while benefiting from many MJCA activities, including: Youth Beef Industry Congress The Youth Beef Industry Congress is a bi-annual congress that brings together more than 200 youth from across the nation to enrich their knowledge and understanding of today's beef business. The Mississippi Junior Cattlemen's Association sponsors its officers to this leadership and industry-issues training conference. Scholarships Through association with MJCA, students are offered several thousand dollars worth of collegiate scholarships. In 2008 alone, more than $28,000 worth of scholarships was given to Mississippi students through MJCA.
Making Tracks Leadership Camp Now in its seventeenth year, "Making Tracks" is a joint effort between the Mississippi State University Animal and Dairy Science Department, the Mississippi Cattlemen's Foundation and the Mississippi Junior Cattlemen's Association and is sponsored by the Wax Seed Company. The three-day event is held annually during the summer on the MSU campus and includes workshops dealing with all aspects of the cattle industry, including reproduction, parliamentary procedure and judging workshops. Field Days MJCA holds several field days for its members. The field days assist with grooming techniques, judging skills, showmanship, new equipment and a lot of fellowship.
Dixie National Livestock Show The MJCA directors conduct a membership meeting annually at the Dixie National Livestock Show Junior Round-up. This meeting enables junior members to enjoy fellowship and become better acquainted with other junior members. MJCA also holds a dance that is used to help raise money for the association. MCA Convention The MCA convention is the site of the largest fund-raising event of the year for MJCA, the prestigious cattlemen's auction. Would you like more information on programs offered by MJCA?
